Qobuz on BDP-1
« on: 7 May 2019, 06:55 pm »
The answer is probably in here somewhere, but I am going to hope that someone can help me out.  I have a BDP-1 and have been using it with TIDAl and ROON with good results.  Thought I would compare QOBUZ so I signed up for the free trial, set up payment information, that all looks fine.  I went into ROON, setup the QOBUZ login, enabled it, and disabled TIDAL.  Also cancelled the TIDAL subscription.    Set up the login information for QOBUZ in ROON and the BDP and saved it.  Restarted the BDP.  Restarted QOBUZ.  ROON is unable to stream QOBUZ.

What did I forget?

If you are in Roon Ready mode on the BDP Roon should send anything playing in your Roon remote source to the BDP. As long as a Qobuz file is playing back within your Roon source it will reach the BDP.

But if you are signed into Qobuz on the BDP in MPD mode you do not need Roon. Qobuz will appear in your MDP Add Files list as a Blue Icon. Select it and a list of Qobuz options will show, Playlists/Favourites/Purchases/Recommendations. Select one of these and choose something to play. On the BDP-1 it may take a moment for the selected file to upload to the Now Playing list but it should play from there once loaded.

I found a note online that the BDP-1 will only support 16 bit from QOBUZ.    So I changed the trial subscription to that.  Yes, the BDP is ROON ready.  Still won't stream the lower res albums that I find on QOBUZ.  After using ROON, the Bryston interface is pretty clunky.  I'd strongly prefer to get this working inside ROON.  Without the nice interface, it's a show stopper for me.  I will just go back to TIDAL.

Qobuz has a great selection, it would be shame not to get it to work via Roon.
You could try restarting Roon, checking you are logged in to to Qobuz and then try again. It has worked for me on the BDP-1.
I have had 24/96 files from Qobuz playing on the BDP-1 before the current firmware was updated and higher res restricted.

Well I got it working.  I had to delete my QOBUZ account, which seemed to have some problems, and recreate it.  So, the BDP-1 will support 24 bit if I sign up for the highest level of QOBUZ ?

There is a Qobuz restriction within Bryston MPD but, I guess, if you play a high res file in Qobuz from Roon Ready mode it should play on the BDP as high res.

I have also used the Qobuz Desktop app with the BDP-1 via DLNA Renderer mode in DashBoard/Services. Nice interface on Q desktop app.

Similarly so with the Audirvana app which has Tidal/Qobuz/HRA embedded into it. Sounds great and is cheaper than Roon.
