Biasing LT1362 to Class A?
« on: 2 Feb 2005, 05:30 pm »
Does the quad op-amp LT1362 benefit from being biased to class A? Is there any problem with heat, since one would increase the current in all four of the units inside it?

Biasing LT1362 to Class A?

The LT1362 is already biased into class A, to the tune of about 4ma/amplifier. If you want increased bias, and would prefer to not deal with the extraneous circuity to increase bias to operate the amp as a single ended amp, and inevitably fry the chip, consider the higher bias LT1365 which is biased at over 8ma/amplifier. LT makes that whole family of chips singles thru quads -

Please use proper heatsinking, you'll need it.
For a far better explanation of 'biasing into class A'  than I could provide -

and heed the words of Jon Risch

Sampsa,
I notice you post the same questions here as well as the Asylum and DiyAudio, and we're quite flattered. But unlike those other boards, the real engineers here tend to be vendors and generally are not  on the Lab Circle. The trick for getting the most from any board is to avail yourself of the search capability and learning what stock you put in advice provided by individual posters and what queries you make. For example - when you posed your question, I knew that my best recourse would be to do a seach on the AA tweeks board, using author = Jon Risch and subject = bias, and go from there.

Thanks. Good to know that I don't need to bias it myself then. I know the basics of biasing op-amps but was curious about the specifics of LT1362, as my searches on all these boards didn't yield any specific experiences, though much speculation.
