Bryston with tube front end
« on: 28 Sep 2018, 10:38 pm »
Hello!

I am looking to buy a Bryston power amp to use with a Audio Research LS28, does anyone have a similar use case? This will be driving a pair of Magico A3's, they are very power hungry so I want to go solid state for power, but have not had the oportunity to hear them paired together.

Many thanks for any input!

Lots of previous threads on the topic both here and at Audiogon's forum. I have found them very helpful in the past...

great question Rez. I'm running all Bryston electronics and lately have been musing about a tube pre-amp for some of my speakers.  I've got about 5 pairs of speakers i shuffle in and out - and some of them - like the Thiel 2.4's -  can be a tad on the bright side depending on the music - and volume.  I've read some reviews suggesting Audio Research pre's pair well with Bryston power - although i've never heard the two together.

About 3 or 4 years ago at the HiFi Centre in Vancouver, I listened to an all Audio Research electronics system paired with the big B&W 802's - it was nice.  Then we switched to the Bryston 28SSST^2's and Bryston preamp and, for me, the Bryston gear blew the pants off the AR.  Bryston had so much more energy, extended top end and most of all serious punch - the kind you feel in your gut.

From my limited experience, I would suspect at 88 dB and 4ohm, any Bryston power amp will drive those A3's beautifully.

Would love to hear your thoughts if you ever do pair the LS28 with real Canadian Bryston power.  Very interested.

Good luck.

TJ

ps. what sources would you be using?

I have a Bryston 2.5 SST-2 w/a Luxman CL38U-SE. Really makes my Aerial 5T's sing.
