Please Explain HT Pass Thru
« on: 16 Jan 2005, 12:39 am »
I have two Statos, being fed by an AVR.  This works well for sorround sound, but I am not yet pleased with my 2 channel.  I have been told that the Tempest Pre can be had with a HT pass thru.  What exactly is this, and how the the overal configuration work?

Thanks, John

HT pass through is bassically allowing the signal from a processor (or AVR in your case) to feed the amplifiers without having to switch cables around. The Tempest would then become your main preamp for 2 channel and at the flick of a switch, your AVR, acting as a processor would be feeding the amplifiers the signal for the front channels when you are using home theater. Your AVR would stil be used to power your center and rears.
You would have the better quality Tempest for two channel listening.

I am assuming that the Tempest, with HT Bypass, would run the HT signal thru to the Amp, bypassing the volume control so that the HT Processor would still control volume.  Is this correct?

My DVD player is doubling as a CD player, so would I use analog outputs to the Tempest for 2 Channel CD, and Digital output to the AVR for Surround?  Thus, I would have to switch the Tempest to HT for DVDs, and CD for 2 channel.  I could probably program a macro on the AVR remote to automate this.
