Anyone want to mope in the basement?
« on: 8 Sep 2018, 01:58 pm »
With all this rain, I am going to sort some tubes and listen to Don’s Pass amp build. Does anyone want to come over for a spell?

Don is going to pick the amp up this weekend, so this is a good chance to hear the amp playing with Klipsch RF7s before it goes bye bye.

I just finished American Beauty by the Dead, and it was quite good. Next up is Genesis, with the HDCD of A Trick of the Tale.

Don is on his way, so we will close out the demo of this righteous Pass amp build with Kristin Korb and the Ray Brown Trio rolling some incredible jazz standards.

Well, Kristin is my new favorite modern jazz singer. Brassy, deeper voice, but she can both caress, modulate, and scat and bop with the titans of yesteryear. Had to bring her into the kitchen to trial out my now fixed Cornwalls.

Here in Denver it's a brilliant sunny day, highs mid 80's.  So for me it's Beethoven and Charlie Puth (my 11 year old daughter's favorite singer ATM).

The weather played nice this weekend, and after getting a couple tips from Mike, I refused our Threshold S300 Series kl, ran it up on a variac over an hour to operating voltage, checked out the DC voltage at the speaker terminals without load, and it works!

Liam spent the next hour spanking the RF7s with some Metallica, Black Sabbath, and CSN&Y. Dang, this amp loves bass.

The S300 is a beast, isn't it?

I wish they were bridgeable, I've exceeded its output limits into the Dynaudio Confidence C4's in the low frequency region.

Guess I'll hafta buy subs!
