How big is your...desert island music library?
« on: 28 Jun 2018, 02:51 pm »
I was browsing my digital library last weekend, and realized that, for practical purposes, it fit on a single 2-TB drive (attached to my BDP player). A lot of music, for sure, by my standards. But in reality, I rarely listen to ALL of it at any time.

So I gave it a more careful perusal by asking: If I had to bring ONLY those albums that I would ABSOLUTELY must have onto a desert island, what space would I need?

Turns out, that all the albums that fit this defn for me actually fits onto a 256 GB thumb drive with room to spare. These are albums that are spectacular, that I could not be happy without, on a desert island.

So I ask you this: if you pruned your massive libraries down to only must-have desert island recordings (digital only, incl vinyl-converted-to-digi), what size disk would it fit on? Be ruthless and prune.

cheers

I have almost 6 TB's of music on an 8 TB drive.  Storage is becoming expensive as it is all backed up on other drives.

But if I had to choose, it would probably be about 400 GB.

More importantly, what would the must have albums be that are on the list?  Are they also excellent recordings for that rare daily double?

That's a good question...for a desert island I keep my Fiio  loaded and charged (you never know) with my favorite essential tunes, a couple of 64gb cards and away you go.
Thought this pic I took awhile back with Klaus Schulz's tune Klaus Schulz ("Playmate in Paradise") that I captured playing on mine was appropriate for the occasion.  8)

Cool mobile system there....I think.  Those Auds I remember were heavy, sold mine for the 560s, never looked back. Amazing how much great MP3s I can cram onto a 160GB iPod Classic, for travel and airport hell. Focal Sphear earbuds.

Anyways, back to Beethoven.....

Actually, I'd not bring anything... I'd enjoy the peace and quiet.  8)

Those LCD2.2s are also long gone, bought them used and they came with that fancy short cable so thought I’d try them on the X3II…didn’t sound too bad but not my first choice away from civilization…the Sennheiser ie800s also shown would obviously be a better choice. : )
On a desert island....not too sure where’d we plug in our Bryston gear though. : (

If you want recorded music on a desert (deserted?) island...forget digital.... the solution has preceded it by decades if not a century.   :D

I met a local guy that had a barn full of Victrola's that he wanted to sell. I wish I had bought them.

He shocked me when he put on a record of Blueberry Hill by Gene Autry.

I think a 160GB iPod Classic full of MP3s to maximize space would be all that I need for a must need desert island library. It's a shame they stopped making those.
