I listened to and am now ready to purchase these beauties.  The ones in the store had the black base.  The base also comes in Cherry and Maple.  Does anyone know what these bases are made of?  Are they solid wood?  Real wood veneer?  Thanks.

I had some here and did not try to pry under the black paint to see what they were made of.   However, I would want them raised off the floor some and guess what, Bright Star Audio has some stands that mount directly onto the bottom of the Gallos that raise them some 10"? and can be filled with sand for a much more stability and lowered center of gravity.  The ones shown on the Bright Star website are black and if that is the only color they come in then I would get a black base.  When I had the Gallos here I was listening to them 8 inches raised and would not want them lower.  I will be getting my own pair in a couple of weeks and will probably get the Bright Star bases.

I think the bases are MDF with a false wood veneer of some sort.  Whatever it is is somewhat fragile and can chip, so be careful.
