Ho! Ho! Ho!
Merry Christmas everyone!

Chrismas come early for me this year and Santa Klaus delivered my gifts early on friday. I've been very very good  ( :nono:  ) this year so Santa had brought the following gears :

- Odyssey Extreme Mono with the new/improved "Red circuit" board.
- Odyssey Extreme Tempest with the new Symphonic Line remote control.
- Groneberg TS Prenium speaker wire.
- Groneborg TS Prenium IC.

It's 6:00 AM here on the west coast and I'm listening to my new Extreme Odyssey setup. Usually, I don't get up this early in the morning but for some reason I'm excited about all these new toys.

Thanks Santa Klaus for going the extra mile to deliver my system in time for the holiday season.

More to come later.

 :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

That's what I want for X-mas, but somehow I always end up with clothes, stuff for the kitchen and other useless things...

Could you please post some pictures of your set-up, so I can show my wife what to give me instead of the above mentioned c***.

What kind of speaker and source do you use?

I'm using  Denon DVD-2900 for my source and Onix Reference 1 speaker. Will post some pics later tonight or tomorrow.

Klaus told me that this is the newer version with a some  caps and resistors upgraded. This mean will cost you more $$$ for the Extreme upgrade. :)

My system is going through a major upgrade so it's impossible for me to differentiate between the green and red circuit board. Give me a few months to let all the equipments break-in and then I'll let you know.

Yes, that is what Klaus mentioned to me when I ordered mine.  IMHO from maybe the myth (or reality depending on what camp you are in) of SS being harsh no matter will be challenge by this upgrade.   He said the top end is smooooth etc, etc.  The downside is additional break in time he said.   Maybe a change needs to be done to take advantage of the new low noise Plitron transformer.

But of course I am taking his comments at face value.  But, for some reason, I am confident with the man eversince when I bought my first mono amps from him.

So the era of having an SS amp comparable to tubes on the top end is already here?    Who knows.  When I received mine, I will find it out myself. If only the second week of January will start tomorrow, I'll be a very happy camper.  Oh well!

Keep us posted F-100!

Alrighty then....  I am pizzed - not really.  Red boards?  Klaus wtf?  So I have two Tempests that I'm too busy to send in for upgrades (home re-modelling).  You would think I would get an email at least on the red boards.  I have a pair of Extremes and a pair of monos just dying for an upgrade.   I'll do a red/green review.  Heck - I'll even buy a pair of Loreleis to compare to my Dyn C1's.  It's been tooooo long.  What's this crap about Cyclops and digital amps - I need an upgrade......  I'm (temporarily) done with this rant.  Miss a few weeks and red freakin boards are out....

F-100 - enjoy the set-up and congratulations on the purchase.  May you enjoy them this holiday season.  I look forward to reading your impressions as the system breaks in.   Ho Ho Ho!

Red boards......

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

Musky_Don,
Actually, I didn't know anything about the red board either until I saw the post by another member here. Luckly for me, Klaus just received a new shipment from Germany and was able to install them for me right before he had to leave for Germany.

As promised, here are the pictures of my system and a few other pics of the Tempest Extreme, remote contol, etc ....

... and here is the new red circuit board :)

F-100 - Nice pics - I'm assuming that cool carpet gets an Extreme workout.  Now I'm really pizzed - my remote only has two buttons  - no labels either.  Having a major listening session tonight while I do some work (yeah).  Pink Floyd - The Wall - vinyl.  The Extremes/Tempest rock - go wayyyyy down - make my C1's sing.  Now my wife is pizzed - where did you get the carpet????

Seriously, congratulations on your purchase.  The green boards (do I have green?) open after about 4 hrs then get better through about 2 months - hard to believe but it is my impression.  My Extremes were better after about an hour than the regular monos - you will be happy you popped the reds with the Onix speakers (actually IMO any speakers - the Extreme/Mono difference is noticable and the monos are very nice indeed (though not red)).  With the super fast red boards you should have great sound by now - you will be having special sessions in a few weeks - lol.  What are all the remote buttons for?

Crazy - Toys in the attic he is crazy - You little shit your in in now I hope they throw awa y the key....just 5 minute worm your honor him and me alone... bars in the window... red boards... remotes with labels....  gotta go before I am exposed before my peers - tear down the wall.

Some day - this mad buger's wall will fall - red boards...seriously (seriously?) time for some major listening.  Mahavishnu Orchestra  - Between  Nothingness and eternity - vinyl (all good pops).

Klaus - if you are lurking - thanks for the product and service - you scared the crap out of Sherri when you walked up to the car in Indy (she's a very street smart chic from Chicago - Indy is a 'small town' to her - and frankly you are a big dude (with a great heart).  Alright - time to stop drinking and turn down the music (a little) before I cause a major problem.  Red boards.....

F-100 - I remember the high from the new electronics - it is still here this evening.  Good fortunes, health and enjoy your new toys.  Best to you and your family.

Don

Musky_Don,
      Your post are very humor. How many drinks did you have already tonight? :)

The carpet is one of those lamb skin that I'd picked up from Costco. It works pretty nice as a sound absorber for my wood floor.

As for the remote control, that is a big suprise for me. I was expecting the "ugly" two buttons one but got this beauty instead. Probably it's a suprise present from Santa Klaus :). I have no idea what other buttons are for but I only use the  up/down button with the Tempest.

Thank you and Hapy Holiday to you and your family.

Now, time to go back and enjoy the Extreme system with some Scotch  :)

F-100,

With the azz kickin electronics you just picked up - I would expect knee burns in that carpet - lol.  I forgot - I have the Extremeinator verion of the boards - will have to check an old post for a pic - pretty sure they kick the sh^t out of red and green....

Drinks?  Not enough.  Am actually doing some research while I listen.  May be time for this dim fisherman to call it a night - right after I hear side 4 of Little Feat's Waiting for Columbus (recent Ebay pick up - they adv. as an original WB pressing - came as a Mobile Fidelity pressing - mint (mint +) 10.50 to my door - sweet).

Scotchad?   I have been enjoying some white wine tonight - a run of the mill Yellowtail Chardonnay.  I usually have some Glenfiddich 12 yr in the cabinet.  I will be joining you shortly.

I sincerely thank you for your posts.  Your enthusiasm for your purchase has reminded me to enjoy what I have - precisely what I am doing.

With the remote - I'm assuming you are male..... you might have some fun with the 'non-functioning' buttons with your better half - I'd buy the labels tomorrow but Klaus left the buttons off as well.

Enjoy.  Had lots of much brighter folks listen to my system - none have an answer for close to the dollars.  Odyssey/Dyn great match - I'm sure that is true for a lot of Odyssey /(plug in your speakers).

Good fortunes and health.

Don

Aaaaaargh,

OK,  red boards = newer version in color.  We got sick of the green ones,  and they're actually easier to read and just plain cool.

differences on the board that coincide with the color change ?

Yes,  some resistor and transistor changes in the input stages.  Amp is more open and immediate.
However,  these are not day and night changes.  Does it make sense to switch to the new boards ?  depends,  would be $ 200.  plus in exchange and up to everybody as to whether it's worth it.  personally,  I'd keep the old board,  put in another $ 100.  and go with the Extreme upgrade.

Late,

klaus

Red boards look more "contemporary", green are "retro".

My old Stratos got the "red board" treatment when it was matched to a new, second unit recently.  Curiousity got the better of me, so I opened it up today and went searching for changes.

The driver were changed (2SD1763A & 2SB1186A to 2SC4793 & 2SA1837), pre-drivers changed (2SA1124 & 2SC2482 to 2SC4793 & 2SA1837) and the operating point of the input stage was changed (quiescent collector currents increased by a factor of 250%).  The drivers' base resistors were increased, which shifts the bias voltages around a little between driver and pre-driver.  Bias and offset potentiometers were changed from single-turn to ten-turn, which makes their adjustment MUCH easier (for Odyssey and us tweakers).

Not having had both red and green in the same space at the same time, I can't say anything comparatively about their sonics.  I was happy with the green and am now happy with the red.
