Greetings from Bartleby
« on: 29 Dec 2017, 06:48 pm »
Please allow me to introduce myself, I am an audio enthusiast since the mid 70's when I had a Sony portable radio and the tuner had a red light that got brighter when it was tuned in and the sound got better. I am currently doing stereo on what I would call a midfi budget and am fascinated with what is happening in audio regarding the value proposition. I am a fan of open baffle speakers, (Emerald Physics, Hawthorne Audio, Spatial Audio) and have been using Nuprime DAC/pre and class D amplification.I am also interested in near field setups and have been enjoying a pair of Dynaudio BM5A's with a Nurpime DAC-9 on my desktop.  Very interested in the Mivera Audio iceedge offering and will be reaching out to bavmike. Currently running Spatial Audio M1 turbo and will be upgrading to M3Turbo S. I have about 4 terabytes of live FLAC recordings pulled from etree and other sites and used to record live shows, mostly in the 80's. Currently using Logitech touch and a Nuprime streamer and may look for higher quality means of streaming. I'd like to get the latest upgrades sorted out soon and get on to the listening and playing guitar. In the end I love researching about audio but my tim e is better suited to use that to manage my investment and audio and sell things before they lose too much value. I have enjoyed auditioning several amps with my speakers and have learned a lot by switching in Krell, Quicksilver, Sunfire, BAT. I am looking towards the future and for me Class D and smaller form factors and energy efficiency will continue to be the way to go.

Welcome from a fellow BM5 owner.  (I use them in-room near-field.)

Thanks for all the welcome replies folks. Wish I still had that old sony radio so I could give it to my stepson and have him enjoy tuning in radio stations and tuning for better sound. In CT in the 70's I was constantly dialiung between WLIR 92.7, WPLJ which I think was 95.5 , and 99.1 out of Hartford. Was fascinated by how the music changed over the years, and pretty frustrated by most of the 1980's pop music.

Update as I spoke with Clayton Shaw on New Years Eve and made a deal for the M3TM's in white. Currently running Nuprime Dac-9 and STA-9, keeping an eye out for a Dac-10 with TDDS mods and have been following the Mivera Iceedge1200AS offering. Was going to delve deper into output impedance matching for the M3TM and what kind of match the Mivera purepower amp would make with the M#TM's but staying put for now. Longer term projects include better FLAC streaming (using a Nuprime WR-100 and a SQ touch with a linear power supply) and transferring my cd's to FLAC. Selling my black M1 turbos and will post here once I have some approved posts.

JLM I enjoyed many of your posts on the BM5A near field listening and you motivated me to set up my desktop with same, love how the music seems so accessible right in front of you and you can tell just about everything that is going on with the bass despite the small setup.

Phil A I have enjoyed your posts as well, I appreciate all your contributions.
