Digital Amps in Australia

Hello all,

I've been lurking here for a few months now, trying to decide which digital amp to buy. I am building a pair of Siegfried Linkwitz' PMTM1 Phoenix prototypes here in Oz (SEAS drivers in real phoenix are way too expensive here), and some affordable multi-channel amplification would be just what the doctor ordered.

Unfortunately, I have had trouble finding any. I have connections to Kenwood in Australia, so I contacted them and asked about the VRS-7100, which is listed on their website. Response? "I'm sorry, there are currently none in Australia and a special order would cost about $800 (wholesale price!)". Scratch that then.

Also tried to locate Sonic Impact products. There is an Australian distributor, but they don't appear to want to return emails.

I managed to find a JVC RX-F10 in a local store for AU$500, which is not too bad, but I was really after an RX-ES1SL (for the sheer cheapness - I am a student after all) and haven't been able to turn one up. Are there any other Aussie contributors who know where I can get one? Ordering from the States is fraught with difficulties (radio tuning stepping probs, need for stepdown tranny etc) but it may turn out to be my only option.

One other question - is the equalisation in the JVCs adequate for compensating for open baffle driver behaviour? I've heard the F10 has more EQ and Xover options but have been unable to find a detailed description.

TIA

Have you ruled out the panny option?  There has been two people i know in Brisbane the past week, one picked up at XR45 the other and XR50.

Yep they are out of my price range (in the Syd and Melb stores I have checked anyway).

Possibly an XR10 would be good, but try finding one :P

Thanks tho,
