Purpose Of Capacitor In Baffle Step Correction Circuit

In some of the baffle step correction circuits an inductor and resistor are used. However, some use a capacitor as well. What is the purpose of the capacitor and how does it affect the sound? Thanks.

A cap will allow the highs to by-pass the rest of the circuit and lift the top end back up.
