I stopped by Sunday morning, lots of great stuff there to see and hear.  The Bryston equipment was impressive, the amps were the new 21Bs with then new cube preamp too.  I wish they gave Bryston a larger room, the room was small and I wanted to hear the setup from a further distance with a bit more volume.

I got a chance to hear a pair of electrostatic speakers the Quad esl57  speakers, the speakers were at least 25 years old and sounded amazing being driven by 30 watts of power?

MEMO: To All Bryston Customers
SUBJECT: Bryston Active Middle T Demo – Capital Audio Fest

November 2017

The look of Bryston audio gear strikes me as crisp and clean—sanitary, even.

Bryston rooms are consistently well-vacuumed and smartly laid-out. Therefore, I am always a little surprised by how Bryston's house sound is more earthy, breathy, fleshy, and real than I assume it will be.

I am sure all these warmer impressions are fueled by the charm and professional savvy of Bryston's Gary Dayton, who is usually making the demonstrations. He always turns me on to music and performers I didn't know I needed to know about.

This time it was jazz singer Gretchen Parlato, indie pop duo Sylvon Esso, and eccentric singer-songwriter, Sufjan Stevens. (Thank you Gary.)

Besides being elegant looking and expensive sounding, Bryston's gear is mostly moderately priced. Gary Dayton's cool artists were showcased via: a BDP-3 DAC, a BDP-17 (cubed) preamp, two 21B (cubed) "3-channel mono" amplifiers (the system was tri-amped), and the Middle T active loudspeakers + BAX-1 DSP Active Crossover. All these Bryston bits were connected to a "Bit 20" power conditioner.

Well James, I am nowhere near experienced enough in high end audio to critique your new active speaker system, but I have a system that would list for twice what the full Bryston setup in your room cost, and what I heard has really got me thinking.

Unfortunately my wife and I did not make it to your room until the end of the day Sunday. We were unable to spend as much time as I would have liked listening to different types of music. I would really like find another opportunity to demo this setup again, as I would have to sell off most of my system to facilitate the purchase.

Considering that I am contemplating selling what I would consider some world class gear, that took me a couple of years to assemble, to enable me to purchase your latest achievement, should be pretty high praise as to what we heard.

The tonal balance, and clarity of the active version was astounding. Not to mention the bass! I kept asking Gary if he had a sub hiding in the side room. My wife and I were both VERY impressed!

Congratulations on quite an achievement!

Regards, Rob.

I have owned and loved my Bryston system for many years. Active speakers are a must. The amps are designed to work with specific drivers, not merely speakers in general.

That being said, nothing I have heard comes close to my current system. Expensive, very. Bryson gets you more bang for your buck. System consists primarily of Meyer Sound Bluehorns, subs, Datasat processor and a dCS Rossini DAC with external clock. Here are a few pics...

James, if you ever get a chance, check out the Meyer Sound Bluehorns at one of the trade shows.

Hi Gary

Looks great!  and sounds great!

I have heard the Blue Horns a number of times - they pay a lot of attention to getting the phase correct - totally agree with them and again one of the advantages of active systems.
