Don Sachs Model 2 SOLD
« on: 5 Oct 2017, 09:51 pm »
Very recent build and is "pretty much as good as it gets" according to Don!

Optional film capacitor power supply, 4 Psvane CV181-Z w/6X5GT rectifier tube, 64 step Khozmo remote attenuator, 2.2uF AudioCap Theta film cap bypassed w/Russian Teflon, two sets of output jacks so one can drive a subwoofer-2.2uF is plenty for that and/or use solid state amp with 20K input impedance easily, and five inputs are assignable. Unit is in pristine condition and sound fantastic.  No power cord was provided to me so I will not be shipping one with unit. Less than 100 hours on the tubes.

Asking $SOLD including paypal and shipped. First person to accept my asking price gets it. If you are giving me offers, please give me 48 hours to get back to you.

Confused by the models......

How does this differ from the SP14 that I see discussed more often, and appears to be on Don's website?

Is the Model 2 on the website?

What is the reason you are selling it?

Don can add XLR input. But I don't think there's any XLR output can be added. I am considering reordering one with XLR in and output. I've asked Don if XLR out is possible. I'm waiting for his reply.

Model 2 is based on SP14 after years of tweaking/experimenting Don has finalized his design and that goes by the name of Model 2. I'm not sure why it doesn't say Model 2 on his website.

I love how it sounds. I've some unique requirement due to system change. For that, I am considering ordering a new one. If you want to know more details, you can PM me.

Why are your pics different than those on the website?

The website preamp has more controls on the front panel -- namely L / R gain controls (similar to my JuicyMusic Blueberry).  I really like this feature as it allows gain matching with various amps, and also fine tuning the balance -- a critical feature in my setup which for some reason is always a little louder on one side.

This preamp was built with no channel attenuators to have the shortest and purest signal path.

Whew! That was a tough decision. I came within a millimeter of offering to buy it at the asking price to use in a future system (which doesn't even exist yet!). I've got to stay focused on my future dream domestic (as opposed to overseas) system. :duh:

Man....talk about temptation! :banghead: :bawl:

Glad I got mine , which has the XLR and with a pair of  1 uf  Jupiter caps L//R , Walnut case,   tape in /out loop with a switch ,  as a matter fact the price I paid for it allows me upgrade the unit with the latest power film caps and and extra set of 3.uf caps for each out put . and Dueland & Neotech  wiring,   just curious why would you need XLR out for a pre amp ? :o

There are many amps on the market which are fully balanced that when attached to a single ended preamp will hum.  In most cases this can be alleviated by lifting the ground, but not always. Regardless of which component is at fault if any it happens.

I recently had several email exchanges with Don when considering one of his preamps.  Don said he did not offer an XLR output option but he did offer an XLR input.  Even before Don sold anything his customer service was top notch.
