Looking for VERY CHEAP turntable as a gift...
« on: 14 Dec 2004, 01:13 am »
...and I need some help. My dad's record player stopped working and I was thinking about replacing it for the holidays. If there are any decent full setups (table, arm, and cartridge) out there for cheap that any of you guys could recommend I'd appreciate it.

Cheap for my broke ass is <$150. He's not into hifi or anything, most of his music is classic rock, lots of late 70's-early 80's rock and classical. I think he's using a 80's receiver and I'm unsure of the speakers.

Thanks,

Max

Not sure of the quality, but several are listed at J&R. Sony, Audio-Technica, Technics etc.

I also think those retro all-in-one TT's are cool, but obviously $$$ are being diverted from the table itself to the cabinet, radio, speakers.

The Sony at the top of that list is pretty decent IMO. It can be found for $80 around the web (although I'd probably go with J&R at $90), it includes a stylus and doesn't require a preamp. All that and it sounds decent, making it really tough to beat for the money.
