Recently ordered a sub woofer and am looking for reccomendations on what type / brand cable to use as interconnect between my line stage and the sub.  The connections will be RCA to RCA.  All other interconnects in my system are Nordost SPM.  Too pricey for the 12' run I need to the sub.
Don't laugh, but will heavy lamp cord do?   I can terminate the ends with RCA jacks myself.  Is shielding recommended?  Should I be looking for a thin guage wire or large gage wire?
Due to the limited frequency range the subs handle, is the "quality" of the interconnect that important?

if you can source some microphone  cable, that will work fine

Belden 8422 is an excellent microphone cable and you can experiment with the shielding...

I have an extra pair (15 ft w/RCA; factory-terminated) of DH Labs SubSonic.  $40 shipped/pr or $25 for a single run.

I would go with a shielded cable for sure. A 12' length of wire run across the floor makes for a great antenna.

I would check out a couple of things first.

1) Is the second preamp output decoupled from the 1st output (say a resistor of some value)?

If it isn't, then.

2) I would be especially careful and try to keep the IC capacitance as low as possible. Many ICs have capacitances of 20pf/foot or more. Even at 240pf, and with a cathode/source follower, the rest of the music could be compromised. Just have to try and see.

I once measure a 20 foot IC and it had 15,500pf of capacitance, or .0155uf. Extremely high.

Just some thoughts. Hope this helps.

I've got a 4 meter run of Bolder M-80 from my preamp to my ACI sub and am quite happy with it.

I'd suggest VenHaus Pulsar for the job...
