SOLD

Asking $700 / or best offer.

This amp is for sale at other sites also, I will mark as sold when that happens.

For sale is a DIY First Watt F5 clone, using the DIY Audio boards, premium parts, and the exceptional HiFi-2000 amplifier chassis from Italy.

I have built many audio and guitar amps over the years, and recently have been really taken with the sound of Class A amplifers as designed by Nelson Pass and generously made available to the DIY community. This is one of the series of F, M, and J amps he has designed. I have built 5 of them, and need to thin out the herd a bit.

Summary of the nominal specifications: Measured at 120 V AC with a 25 ohm source and an 8 ohm load: Distortion @ 1 watt .001% to .005% @ 1 KHz Input Impedance 101 Kohm Damping Factor 60 Output power stereo 8 ohms 25 watts @ 1% THD, 1KHz Voltage Gain 15.3 dB Maximum unclipped output +/-20 Volts Maximum output current 10 amps Frequency response - .0 dB @ DC, -3 dB @ ~ 1 megaHertz Noise ~60 uV unweighted, 20-20 KHz Power consumption 180 watts Fuse 3AG slow blow type, 2.5 Amp for 120VAC

The amp weighs 32 pounds.

Premium parts were used: Cardas quad eutectic solder, mil-spec wire, authorized diyaudio signal and power supply boards, Vishay-Dale and Panasonic signal and power resistors, Nichicon long life power capacitors, Antek 300VA shielded power transformer, Vishay 30A bridge diodes, matched 2sj74/2sk170 jfets and matched irfp240/9240 power mosfets. Neutrik rca input jacks, gold plated 5-way speaker binding posts.

This is a very quiet amplifier with low self noise. No mechanical transformer hum.

It runs hot, as all Class A amplifiers, but is only usually less than 20 C above ambient temperature, well within specs to get long life from the amplifier parts.

The sound is very crisp, but relaxed, powerful, yet lets all the nuance through with the right speakers.

SHIPPING INCLUDED TO THE CONTINENTAL USA. I carefully box to insure safe arrival.

I am in the ST. Paul Minnesota area.

Thanks for looking.
