Does anyone know where the XR10 ranks in comparison to XR45 or XR50 in build quality, parts and sound?

BTW - I think there's a really long thread on DIYAudio regarding the XR10.  They talk some technical details about it which might answer the questions you're looking for.

One of these days I will directly compare my XR-10 to my XR-45.  But right now its in the bedroom and the 45 is driving the HT.

The XR-10 is prettier.  How's that for a comparison.  :)

xr10 is 5 channel, xr45 is 6

xr10 is apparently easier to slice and dice.

dave_c Thanks for the tip to head over to the DIYaudio.com forum.  There is mucho mas informacion about digital amps etc.

here is something very interesting about modding a pioneer 563a universal player to output a pure digital i2s signal and build a receiver board for the panasonic saxr10

For those interested here it is:

I think the biggest difference I heard between the XR25 and the XR45 is twfold:
1) The XR25 made slight clicking noises when changing the volume; the 45 dosn't make those noises
2) The XR45 seems to have an even blacker background with a little more oomph behind the music.

There are some bells n whistles the 45 has that the 25 doesn't have but no thing major (though the OSD in the 45 is quite handy).  I think wayne posted pics a while back that also showed the XR45 has more power supply parts etc and a slight variation on the volume control hence the clicking noises being eliminated in the 45.

anyway, that post up there by Brian Brown is just unreal.  That guy is an engineering stud plain and simple.

Yeah Brian's work is very impressive, especially if he was able to implement brute force FIR filtering for full digital xo/eq/room correction in addition to high res and direct digital amplication.  That is the future folks!

Heavystarch, I appreciate your comments on the 25 vs. the 45. I own the 25 and looking to upgrade to the 45 for $250. . For $100 the 70 does not seem offer that much more. However, I do not have any clicking noise when adjusting the volume on my 25. Perhaps there is something wrong with your 25.
