Full range Class-D amps in the car
« on: 30 Nov 2004, 05:43 pm »
I'm looking for Class-D amps for my car, because it is small and has a smallish alternator. Also, I would like amps in the Panasonic XR45 value class, because why spend more money for questionable to nonexistent performance improvements. I don't need MUCH power; about 50watts into 8ohms should be plenty for the 2" wideband drivers I'm using from ~250Hz up (Aura Whispers), and I'd like 75-150watts into 4ohms for each  8" midbass. Something that's 100x4 into 4ohms would be perfect.

I know there's been some discussion of the Blaupunkts here. I love the price but the consensus here and elsewhere seems to be that they have issues. Xtant has a switching monoblock, but I'm not paying that much for amps in a convertible. Has anyone here experience with this amp: http://www.lanzar.com/citempage.asp?MODEL=RBOPTI4X400D
They're very cagey with details about switching frequencies and chipsets - though I did e-mail their sales and support addresses, maybe they'll answer - so I am a little leery. But if they're reliable, accurately-rated amps they'd be perfect for me.

Or does anyone have any other recommendations for small switching full-range car amps with flexible crossover circuitry?
