B100 sst phono card
« on: 19 Jun 2017, 10:13 am »
Hi to everyone.I 'm a new italian Bryston owner and new forumer.
I bought a B100 sst integrated ,wonderful sound, I love it and my ML Aerius realy sings as never do it.I have an Audio research cd1 old player and a Thorens td 125 mk2 turntable with SME 3009 tonearm and Goldring 1042 cartridge so I'm looking for a new phono stage and I would like to buy the Bryston phono MM optional card ,is this the right choice?does anyone have it and could descrive it's sound?
My doubt is for a more flexibile choice with an external phono but I really like Bryston sound and I feel in it's technical know how.
Sorry for My bad English I Hope You understand well.
ciao Paolo

Paolo,

I purchased the MM phono card for my B135 SST2 in 2016. I originally was using a Rega P25 with an Exact 2 MM cartridge, and more recently I've been using a Yamaha GT-2000 with a Denon DL-110 HOMC. Both require a little higher volume setting than with other sources. I find it as engaging as the Manley tube MM phono stage I have, albeit with lower noise. I haven't done comparisons to other stages, and really don't have an intention to at this point.

I hope this helps.

Thank you very much Marty for reply I had a Denon dl110 very wonderful cartridge and now I have a Goldring 1042 it is even better.
I'm happy to read your news I found an used phono card for Bryston B135 and I think to buy it.I love the new phono 1/3d and for sure it is a good new project and even better sounding but much more expensive,so for me the internal phono card is good enough and less money, less cables, less stress.
I love Bryston products.

I thought I read in one of the other topics that the design of the current MM card for the B135/B100 is the same as the design for the 1/3 size external stages. Perhaps there might be a little difference in the performance since the 1/3 MM uses an outboard power supply.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll enjoy either one. I went with the card because I didn't want yet another component to plug in and wire up.
