Loved the anime series and anime movies. Saw a trailer for live action starring Scarlett Johansson over the weekend. Excited to see it and really hoping it's good great.

I also loved the original anime movie and series.  One of the few times I had to actually pause the playback and look things up to understand what the hell they were talking about.  And I have more than a passing interest/knowledge of philosophy....I just hope they don't turn it into just another cool looking but hollow and dumb action flick.  The thing that make the anime so great was how unapologetically nerdy and intellectual it was.

So much potential, but with that great power it can swing hard either way.

I too enjoyed several of the anime movies. Although I'm glad we don't live in that bizarro world; clearly born of a introspective-depressive Japanese attitude where it's worth considering their lives in such situations.

Just watched the trailer, things are looking up some... however I think even if the performance is good it's a miscast with SJH. Money grabbing shits of Hollywood reuse to many actors too often. It wears on me. At least it's not as bad as Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai.

Maggie Q may have been a better choice.

I will be interested to catch this one, as I enjoyed the animated movie I saw in the 90's.
