Powerpac problem...
« on: 9 Dec 2004, 03:09 pm »
Tuesday morning the cleaning lady cried fire, one of my surround speakers, a Sonus Faber Signum was smoking a lot from the woofer... The wife ran, umplugged the speaker cables, and the smoke subsided...

The woofer melted and move away from the dust cap, thats where the smoke came from... see picture:

Only cableTV playing at ambient levels through a Krell Showcase processor, speakers small, xover 100hz, then the Powerpac...

What do you think happened ?

It looks like a large dose of DC hit the woofer.  Is the PowerPac designed with a guard against DC?  I one owned a Rany White LLano amp which sent DC through a pair of Tannoy dual-concentrics.  A thousand dollars later the speakers were repaired.

Congratulations Bryston...

This is their answer to my problem:

"Bryston regrets that you have had this problem.  Our warranty
coverage will repair your damaged speaker as well. Please let me
know if you have any other questions, and thank you for your
patience with this issue."

As an owner of several pieces of Bryston equipment, I have to say that is a very cool response ...
