Micro-seiki?

Hi guys,

We discovered my mother's old record player, a Micro-Sieki of some sort. Are these folks anyboy any of you have heard of?

We want to know if this LP is worth repairing or not. It needs a new cartridge or something.

The model number is MB-15

Will this work on my modern 514K pioneer reciever?

Just for reference, one sold recently on eBay.

From the Pioneer website, it doesn't seem your receiver has a phono stage built in, so you'd need a seperate phono preamp/equalizer. These can be relatively cheap ($25.00 or less) or entry level (like the NAD PP-2 for $129) up to thousands of dollars. A couple AC members are upgrading their phono stages, so you might buy their old ones??

That turntable was made in 1976. It has the same tonearm as my MB-14 that I bought in 78. It also has the same or similar platter.

If it is as good as my mb-14 and I think it is...than party on Aman!

My MB-14 got me through college and no one complained.

It is a nice entry to mid level turntable IMO. Wires may become brittle and belts might wear out, but the main things were very well built and worth most any restoration costs, within reason.

As mentioned, get a nice phono pre and cartridge and your all set!

The Radio Shack phono pre
gets alot of good "ink" on another forum. Unfortunately, you can't walk into RS, try it out and return it if it's unsatisfactory since it's special order.

Nice, thanks guys.

I actually have it hooked up to a Pioneer SX-450 receiver and using Sennheiser HD595 headphones to listen to it. Putting some large Acoustic America monitors into the receiver later.

Again, appreciate all of the help!

It needs repairing though. I have to drive a two-hour trip, but I'd rather not buy a different TT.

Is it worth the drive to get this record player playing without damaging our vinyl?

I spent nearly 2000 totally refurbishing my 25 year old Linn Sondek. If it was your mom's turntable and has some sentimental value behind it, get it repaired!

Well she could care less about it. She got it in college to be "cool". Little did she know it was so good!

I thought myself it was a peice of junk, but I'm a bit too young to know anything about LPs.

Anyhow, it NEEDS repairing. It just destroyed my Ummagumma LP from Pink Floyd - it isn't weighted correctly and just put a million scratches in it

Anyway, I'll get that thing fixed immediately. It would mean a lot to me in many ways to do so.

I took the turntable to a repair shop and it's broken beyond repair. I need a new turntable, and was thinking of the Music Hall MM-5? I am on a college budget, and was figuring about a budget of 500 dollars or lower?

And no, I'm not putting this in a dorm room. I recently started to rent out an apartment, so all that is settled. It will be well-taken care of

you can get a killer turntable for $500 - if you buy used. not that the mm5 isn't ok, it *is*, but so much better is out there used. if i *had* to buy a new deck for <$500, i'd get a technics sl1200...
