Transfer playlists from BDP-1 to BDP-2?
« on: 23 Jun 2016, 04:22 am »
I'm considering upgrading my BDP-1 to a BDP-2, but I am concerned about losing my store of playlists. Is there an easy way to export/import playlists from one machine to another using an intermediary device (e.g. using a USB flash drive or external hard drive)? Or would the two machines (BDP-1 and BDP-2) have to be directly connected? What steps would be required?

I have searched the forum, but it turned up nothing on this question.

TIA

Hi TIA

Thats a Chris question for sure - will leave it to him.  I think the playlist is stored on the internal flash card so you would have to transfer that card from the BDP-1 to the BDP-2?

TIA:
If you open the window for the BDP-1 on your computer you will see a folder path named "user / playlists".  Here you will find the playlists you have saved.  Archive these somewhere on your computer ( I do this as a rule ).  Now open the window for the BDP-2 and drop those playlist files into the BDP-2 "user / playlists" folder.

The only issue is the drive(s) in the BDP-2 and the drive(s) BDP-1 should have the same name(s) otherwise the playlist path statements will not work unless, of course, you choose to edit all the path statements in the playlist to reflect the BDP-2 drive name(s).  Not much fun I'm sure.

Also if you wish to view a playlist open it using Wordpad.  I use this to rearrange tracks on a playlist; I'll Cut and Paste tracks just added to put them in the correct alphabetical order then save the playlist.  For some reason I have to do it that way cause in my computer ( XP / Chrome ) moving the tracks in MM does not stick. :|

If the drives aren't the same name, you can easily replace all the paths in the playlist files with Replace All.  As long as you don't close the text editor and just open the next playlist while saving the previous one, the Find what: and Replace with: fields will stay populated with that data and you won't need to retype for each playlist.

Only takes seconds per playlist to replace.  If you use Notepad++ (great Windows text editor) or one of the Mac equivalents, you can just drag all of the playlists into it and Replace All in All Opened Documents in one operation.

As long as the BDP is running a new enough version of the firmware you should be able to see a network share called 'user'.  You can find your playlists in that network share in a folder labeled 'playlists'.  As mentioned by a previous poster you could simple swap the cf cards, the firmware on the BDP-1 would need to be atleast loony loon S1.60 or greater.

Thanks, guys! That is exactly what I wanted to know. And the advice on EDITING the playlist "offline" is also very useful.

This forum is great.:D
