Dared VP-20 amps - SOLD
« on: 14 Jun 2016, 11:43 am »
I’m the second owner of these amps which are the newer version with the gold circuit boards. They’re in excellent cosmetic condition and perform flawlessly. As is true for all Dared VP-20s, the volume controls are a bit noisy when in use, but have no effect on the sound quality. The amps came to me with a quad of US made old stock Tung-sol 5881 power tubes, a pair of old stock Cifte 12AU7s, a Phillips 12AX7 and Chinese 12AX7. I bought a matched quad of cryo treated new Reflector 6P3S-E power tubes and a NOS pair of Amperex ECC83/12AX7 tubes [AMPEREX Codes of i 65 over Delta 6 L 4 and i 65 over Delta 7 B 1; tested as follows. . . 103 / 104 & 104 / 104]. The amps will convey with all tubes which will be shipped in a second box. I have the factory shipping box/packing materials, main power cord and umbilical power cords. My asking price is $500 plus FedEx ground service shipping and 3% PayPal transaction fee. Prospective buyers can check my Audiogon feedback under user name reedlom.

How does the VP-20 compare to the VP-300B? I'm unfamiliar with the VP-20 but have heard the VP-300B.

I've only heard the VP-300B at a friend's home, driving Cain & Cain Abbey single-driver speakers with the optional super tweeters. As expected, the midrange was glorious, especially on female vocals. My concern was the lack of frequency extension in the lows and highs, something I've always felt was an issue with the 300B tube. For single ended triodes I much prefer the 2A3 and 6C33 tubes. To my ears the 6L6 variants have much better frequency extension, better dynamics and sound staging, sounding like the EL34 and KT88 to a degree. I use the VP-20s to drive a pair of Decware MG944 speakers and have been very pleased with the sound ... quick, dynamic, huge soundstage. I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you have other questions.
