Hi Guys,

Last last year i bought a Bluenote Piccolo turntable and imported it from Singapore as it was a lot cheaper than purchasing from the dealer in sydney.  Anyway in the package i received a audio technica entry level cartridge which was okay but nothing special.  I had bought a perreaux sxv-1 phonostage and the sound was pretty reasonable imo.

Anyway after another thread and advice from the owner of Bluenote i decided to purchase a denon dl103.  I scoured the internet and eventually found a good deal locally for the cartridge $218au/$150us (not everything you purchase on the internet is cheaper  :) ).

Also, Carlman (carl to his friends) had sent me a hagtech bugle phonostage to listen to and i eventually negotiated with him to purchase it from him (i hope he forgives me for that).

In the last month i haven't been listening to much music as i had to get some work done on the bluenote (had to get the tonearm lift mechanism replaced), the ribbon replaced in my speakers and my aksa amp upgrade.  After having all fixed and in working order i decided to splash out and purchase a couple of New lp's.

I bought Pink Floyd 'dark side of the moon' and Ac/Dc's 'back in black' (i remember being a young teenager and seeing them Live).  Anyway i've been listening to those albums and Gee the sound is so Much better than their cd versions it isn't funny.  The sound has better ambience, punch (some call it dynamics) and bass it isn't funny.

Who said vinyl was dead.

Regards

I love it when a system comes together... and makes that magic... vinyl or other source...

So, I can really relate and I'm super happy for you.  When I first got my vinyl rig together and working properly, I had a similar revelation about lp's vs. cd's.

BTW, I can also tell you it takes 200 hours for the AKSA to burn-in.  However good or bad you think it is at 100 hours.. or 150... doesn't matter.  It got so much better recently.

My problem now is I can hear the platter spin.  It's sort of a dry 'krrrrr' sound that makes me mad.  My $100 Sony didn't do this so it makes me mad that a $400 Pro-Ject does.  I'll be experimenting with solutions for that now... and I can't spend any money to fix it.  i.e. no new turntable..

I'm glad the Bugle worked out.  I bought a replacement because I couldn't find anything better for under a thousand.  Plus, I had it built to the Dynavector's requirements.  Jim was super-fast and reasonably priced for the labor.  However, I now have about $400 invested in the Bugle pre.  It 'should' sound good.

Anyway, I'm very happy (and relieved) everything has worked out.  Now go enjoy the tunes!

The Hagtech Cornet is under a thou, and bests the Bugle IMO....

Oops.  The Cornet is 995 assembled... that's before the modifications...     I'm sorry about that.  I'm sure there are better, and definitely anything from Hagerman is going to be very good based on my experience with the Bugle.

I guess I should've qualified my statement a bit.  How about... It's the best I've heard or compared under $900, for fully assembled, using upgraded parts and top-notch connectors and wiring.... ;)

The power supply was upgraded by Bolder, it's got ERS lining everywhere, OFC, CCC, Auric, etc. etc... It's a Bugle 'Extreme'. ;)

Hi Marbles,

Have you had the opportunity to compare the bugle with a cornet phonostage?

Just bought 4 lps today, 1 new (jewel) and 3 secondhand lps.

Carlman, that's very odd that you can hear your platter spinning. I have the same TT and I don't hear a thing, maybe you should call someone at Sumiko. BTW, how do you like it, how does it compare to your cd setup?

Put a drop of motor oil in the bearing well of your project. The bearing quality is no where near fine enough to run dry. That should quiet it down and extend its life a bit.

Rocket,

I have not heard the Bugle, but Mgalusha and Wayne1 have and both clearly liked the Cornet better.

Sorry about the late reply, I just saw your question.
