Just got my kismets! anyone can help me with specs?
« on: 28 Apr 2016, 02:31 am »
I have a small desk setup with Philharmonic Audio New Philharmonitors with raal/scanspeak revelator and just upgraded to kismet in khartagos, I'm the second owner and plan to keep these as my forever amps. They are a huge upgrade from my previous emerald physics class d amp.  Everything is better, faster transients, more dynamic punch, way more detail in the treble, high hats, saxophones, cymbals..

The seller listed these upgrades, can anyone tell me more about the specs of my kismet?  serial 5019 and 5020 Do they use 650VA Plitron or is it 400VA plitron transformer?  120 or 180k uf capacitance per channel?  Either way they are super amazing

Full Power Supply Upgrade/Transformer

Full Kismet board upgrades

Off board Symphonic Line Reference Capacitors

WBT RCA connectors

Chrome Face Plates

Also, how bad is it to stack them?  I know it's bad from a cable management point of view but I stacked them and put my ear to the tweeter and hear nothing.  I'm saving so much space this way so I really want to keep them like this

I can't help you with specs, but you should make sure to give them room to breathe. Odyssey recommends leaving the amps on all the time and over time the heat could cause problems. It is the bottom one that concerns me. Just throw something together to raise the top amp to give some space for the heat to escape. Some PVC cut to about 2-3 inches and glue some cheap cork coasters to both sides to protect the surfaces of the amps. That is an off my head super cheap thought. You could even paint the PVC. There are a ton of options, just give them some breathing room.

Main objective is to take care of those beautiful beasts so they last.  :thumb:

+1 Better you live in a cold area.
Not suited stack these amps, they
have to be space around to cooling.

Have fun,  and welcome to the family...a shame that Gery had to sell them,  but your gain for sure...as for specs,  not much different then the K monos, or the Stratos monos for that matter...and yes, 2-5 inches height adjustment will suffice...just check the amps and make sure that over the holes it is barely warm to the touch...if it gets hot,  we'll have to talk re-biasing......

thank you Klaus!  I added these simple wooden block spacers tonight, I will monitor to make sure they don't get too hot.  if they do I will flip the spacers vertical for more space between amps.

Nice system.  I like the Philomonitors.  I have a pair of Dennis Murphy AR 3s's that he put in modern tweeters & a crossover of his design.  They were AB'd with a pair of his model 3's & they were very close in sound.

Is this temperature ok?  It feels hot to the touch but I can leave my hand indefinitely on it.  It's no hotter than my onkyo receiver inside a cabinet

it's 46C.  I just got this IR temperature gun today :)

At 115 degrees that is pretty hot and the bottom one is probably considerably hotter. But if that is how you want it take your chances.

Aloha

30* above ambient wouldn't be out of the norm for electronics.  Hawaii (lucky guy) is typically 80* - 85* so it sounds about right.
