BDP-2/BDA-2 help
« on: 6 Apr 2016, 03:18 pm »
I have the bda-2/bdp-2 combo, with internal WD 1TB drive, the ripping procedure to the internal drive takes about 5 mins or so to rip and configure (in FLAC),my issue is that I want external RAID NAS storage. I only want to rip ONCE. The unit will find and configure my NAS, but the ripping process if it finishes takes FOREVER...HELP!

If ripping to your NAS is taking substantially longer then it is likely an with either the performance of the NAS or some sort of bottleneck in bandwidth between your ripping device and the NAS its self.  What kind of NAS and RAID configuration are you using?  Do you have gigabit connection between your computer, NAS and everything in between?  Or is the a wireless or non conventional wired connection in between somewhere?

Cheers,
Chris

all wired gigabit cat 6, ripping device is a BOT-1 to the BDP-2. WD mycloud ex2 with 2 WD red 2tb in raid . worst case.can I rip to internal 1TB then shift over to the NAS?
The wd Nas unit has a built-in twonky music software.

HI,

(sorry, i responded too fast to see you mention your BOT. Pardon me please, ill leave the rest to the post. Maybe you can test the cloning process, so you only need to rip once)

Do you rip with a pc/mac or BOT?

If the former, you're best bet would be to rip to the device you're reading the cd with, then copy to either or both internal BDP and NAS. Even automize the copying to both of these to keep them synchronized.

I find the ripping and copying to the BDP, and of course updating these, best to be separated processes, since every once in a while in either of these processes something goes amiss, and then end up in a confusing chaos of errors.
If you separate the processes, you know you won't frustrate the BDP with copying issues, let alone updating the newly added files.

A NAS does a lot more things than accept your new files. Manages many background processes, so often is a lot slower than the harddrive of you pc/Mac. After finishing the RIP, simply send it to the NAS and BDP, and leave it do its things.

Fool and fail proof is my experience.

I don't have a Bot (for the above reasons btw, and the necessity for the BOT to be attached to the BDP, which is a real letdown for me) so can not be of help in that scenario ;)

Cheers,
Marius

Thanks for the reply, I have the BOT directly to the BDP, I use a pc to manage the interface. The rip to internal BDP storage is quite reasonable, so what I did last night, I moved my NAS to connect directly to the same gigabye switch as my laptop and my BDP. It will now rip 1 or 2 songs, the BOT will spit out the disc, I have to re-insert 2 or 3 times to completely rip 1 cd to my NAS.This is pure CRAP.Is there a setting in the BDP I'm missing? Or how can I move the library from the internal storage to the NAS?

I'm not familiar with that NAS and am unsure of how quickly it can transfer data, I know its smaller sibling the WD Mycloud (single drive) is limited to about 30MB/s.  It could be that its just a bandwidth limitation that's causing things to slow down.  However though; a new feature has been added to the most recent testing build that forces the BDP to rip the data directly to system memory rather then the final destination.  This should mitigate (not completely) bottlenecks caused by storage devices.  Also this feature is currently limited to only being functional from the Web GUI and not from the front of the unit.

Cheers,
Chris

Chris, I use the manic mouse interface on the new firmware. Is the internal drive discoverable on my network???? If so, I can drag and drop my files into the NAS after I rip them

The BDP shares any drives attached it as Samba (Windows) shares.
