Somehow Powering my Synology with a LPS
« on: 28 Mar 2016, 07:49 pm »
In my quest to rid my system of all switching power supplies, my attention is now turned to my Synology DS1513+ NAS.

Inside the box there's a switching power supply on the side and ATX connectors.  I have two  leftover internal power supplies from my CAPS server, having used both a 12v and a 19v model.  So if I get another 12v or 19v LPS, I should be able to plug in the ATX connectors to my Synology, or not?

Larry at HDPlex tells me that ATX connectors are pretty much all standard.

This link suggests that some fairly serious solder surgery is necessary.

If I get this wrong, I suspect the results could be somewhat catastrophic.

I've got a voltmeter, but if I recall those ATX connectors have a power up process and you can't just plug it in and check the voltage coming from each pin.

Any advice out there?  If not, anyone know someone who might be up for the task?

Someone could probably charge decent coin for a plug and play replacement Synology power supply.  I know it goes without saying that it would void the warranty.

Thanks all.
