BP 25 vs BP26
« on: 27 Mar 2016, 03:39 pm »
Im on line for a used but recently serviced BP25 with mps1.  Ive searched the forum and found some very good information.  Is there any advantage to the BP26 soniclly. I will be using the balanced ends into my 2.5 cubed and can the BP25 be upgraded to the newer 26?

Thanks Mike

Unless I'm mistaken, the only advantage to the 26 is that it utilizes the newer external power supply.

Most folks feel the 26 will give you better performance but the improvement is incremental not monumental (at least I think those are the terms James Tanner uses).  You can upgrade the 25 to a 26 and it used to cost about $600, not sure today.  And then you would have to purchase a MPS 2 power supply because I don’t think the 26 works with a MPS 1.  FWIW I am pretty sure you can use the MPS 2 with either the 20, 25 or 26.  Some folks feel just the power supply will up the performance of the 25 quite a bit but I haven’t tried that with my 25.

When they do the upgrade I think you get a 26 faceplate and new knobs so it would match a SST or SST2 amp.

Good Listening,
Mike

The MPS1 does work with the BP26, I had the upgrade done a few years ago and I am still using the old power supply.

The BP25 should be here on Monday or Tuesday, now I just need a dac to go with the transport and the transformation is done.  Im was thinking of upgrading to the 26 but I dont really see any benefit socially anyhow from what others have told me.

Now that's something no one ever admitted to before.....perhaps I'll try the 26 after all. :thumb:
