Synology issues
« on: 25 Mar 2016, 09:42 pm »
My Synology server has been running smooth until last night. For some reason it lost connection to my streamer (Auralic Aries).

When I opened my Synology control panel it said I needed to update Java, so I did. Well that didn't fix it. I noticed it said that minimserver software needed to be updated too. I went to the Minimserver site and followed the directions. First thing it told me to do was delete the old Minimserver application, which I did. Then it said to download newest file(for my specific server) from their site and then within the Synology software choose to manually install the software. I tried to do that, but Synology gave me an error message saying the file is not compatible or some bs. I then remembered that I originally installed it from the Synology Package Center. Well, I searched all over and can't find minimserver anyhwere. Apparently it's no longer available for download through the Synology Package Center. Now I'm stuck with a server that doesn't work and I can't seem to install minimserver. Please help!!!!!

Did you update to DSM 6?  If so, did you install Java8?  Make sure you updated to the proper Minimserver download too.

Thanks for jumping in jtrace! DMS is currently 6.0. I might have updated that last night without realizing it, using the auto update. I just installed Java 8.

Once again I tried to install the proper minimserver .spk file that I downloaded from the minimserver website. When I try to do a manual install in the Synology Package Center I get the error message "This package is not supported on the platform of DiskStation".

Any more thoughts? I'm dying here without my library.... :duh:

It does sound like you're not running the correct .spk file for your particular processor platform.  What is your Synology model and which file did you download?

Edit:  I believe you have the Synology DS215j which is an ARMv7 platform (Marvell ARMADA 375 processor).  Are you trying to install the  MinimServer-0.8.3.4-armv7.spk  file?

Steve, you are on the money. That's the Synology unit I have, and your are correct, I was trying to install in the inappropriate version of minimserver. I'm installing the correct version now and will report back. THANK YOU!!!!!

Just saw this thread, I had the same issue today, has been running great until now.  Updated Java to 8 and installed the new Minimserver, viola, music again.  Quite aggravating until I figured out what had happened.  I have changed my setting on the Synology (DS 214 play in my case), to not automatically install updates, will that keep it from happening again?

Best,
Ed

Well, it's seems to be back up and running, but now my Auralic Aries won't recognize the Synology. One step forward......

I had to go back through the Aries setup starting with pulling power.

My Synology DS1815+ (64 bit Intel) auto updated and Minimserver failed to run with "update required" error. I followed the instructions upgrading manually to 0.8.3.4 for 64 bit Intel and then installed Java 8. It took a couple tries to restart Minimserver and then all was good on the Aries. Both Roon and Aries are back to normal again - whew!

My Aries Mini and DS 1815+ work fine via the DLNA server. You could probably run DNLA and Minimserver at the same time and see if one is preferable to the other for your needs.  Upgrading to DSM 6, the only minor bump was making sure Plex continued to work, a small amount of research helped it all go smoothly.
