I just finished building a pair of these. As I was really looking for an LS3/5a clone, I copied as many features of the original as I could including car body damping material on the inside walls, felt rectangle around the tweeter, behind the tweeter...even mounted the crossover in the way some originals had it, see picture.

I only had a few hours to listen tonight and I have to say they are remarkably like the originals and may go a bit louder before bottoming out. I did hear the slightest bit of sibilance but have to listen more if that is really so.

Does anyone have experience with these?

I had similar speakers (I. M. Fried Model B, not quite meant to be copies, but did have similar voicing).  Very listenable (non-fatiguing/non-dynamic), full bodied, incredible imaging, and musical like you'd expect from a really good small 70's speaker (no metal domes!).  The Model B was sealed, but the Model B2, with new mid/woofer, was aperiodically loaded.  When coupled with the matching pair of 6 cubic foot transmission line loaded woofers it really sang (but only in huge venues).

Hello, Toptip.

I've got a pair of Jeff's Adelphos that I assembled. I recall thinking there was sibilance and the midrange 'off' in the very beginning, but as more hours passed and the drivers and XOs burned in, all of that disappeared into such great music that I sold my Proac D2 monitors and kept the Adelphos.

Give them a little time. I'm willing to bet your speakers will sound much better in the days and weeks ahead.

Welcome to AC!
