More sad news. Keyboardist extraordinaire. The Nice, ELP.  Saw ELP once on their 'Pictures' tour. RIP Mr. Emerson.

RIP, Keith. One of my favorites. I just listened to Tarkus the other night.

Sigh. ELP was a great band.  :(

I actually saw their Brain Salad Surgery LP for sale in Taipei a couple months ago.

Just brought it out for a listen.  Don't know that I ever listened to it before, although I certainly knew of ELP and Brain Salad Surgery.  It's definitely out there, but I'm giving it a fair chance.

This is especially true because he was still contributing. At least, he did release 'Three Fates' two years after he went through colon resection hell. I think it's one of the best things he ever did. After discovering this news (his apparent suicide), I chose 'Three Fates' for last night's main course.

It's been a hell of a year, and we're not even a quarter of the way through it. Last night, while looking into Keith's death, I also discovered that Piotr Grudzinski, of Riverside, died back in February.

I saw ELP back in the day. It was a in the round setup. Stage in the middle of the auditorium. Huge stacks of speakers at all four corners. I think my ears were bleeding after the show. They had some kind of lift under Emmerson which raised him up quite high as he played. RIP

RIP.

I never saw ELP but I did see the Nice (who I mostly preferred to ELP) back in the late sixties. They put on a great show.
