Restored Thorens TD150 photos
« on: 1 Mar 2016, 03:19 am »
I recently purchased a Thorens TD150 for $200. I plan on restoring it and would love to see what other members have done with their vintage Thorens tables. It is in good shape but missing the headshell and bottom panel. What tonearms have you put on it? Is a stacked plywood plinth the best option? Any tips would be most welcome. The folks at the Gateway Audio Society appear to be eager to help.

Cheers

I have a Thorens TD-145.  I made a new plinth with a friend out of Cocobolo wood and applied a high gloss lacquer and used baltic birch for the bottom plate.  Cocoblo is one of the top 3 most dense woods in the word.  I lined the interior with GTMat and lined the area that the metal top sits on with silicone.  I am still using the original tone arm and have paired it with a Nagaoka MP-200 cartridge.  I will try and post pic's on Wednesday when I have time.  I put Sorbothane feet on the bottom plate.

Here is what Cocobolo looks like-
