For you consideration a CABERNET DUAL PRE AMP hand crafted by audio engineer and designer Mick Maloney.A timeless and classic design the CABERNET was the premium line stage in the Supratek product line.
The CABERNET consists of a pre amp and separate power supply connected by locking umbilicals.The power supply sports a 5AR4 Rectifier and a pair of 5881 drivers.The pre amp has a pair of TJ101D globes,two 6SN7's and two 6H30 super tubes.There are several other variants which can be used as alternates and are identified in the user manual.
The CABERNET has 2 separate preamp sections with 2 sets of outputs.One pre amp stage uses a 6SN7 driving a 101D.The other or second stage uses a 6SN7 driving a 6H30 super tube which delivers superb response in bass and treble bandwidths.Both pre amp stages can be utilized independently of one another and having 2 stages allows the user to bi amp the CABERNET if you have the necessary ancillary equipment.A rotary gain control in combination with the aforementioned tube configuration allows the user a myriad of combinations to fine tune the preferred sound.
Meticulously crafted the CABERNET is a work of art,more musical instrument than electronic component.Superb fit and finish and the ultimate eye candy.Used in a dedicated music room with only the highest level of ancillary equipment and covered when not in use the CABERNET should continue provide years of trouble free operation.The majority of the tubes are vintage apart from the TJ101D's and all test favorably.
Sonically the CABERNET in my system is without equal and I have owned many pre amps.Focus and imaging are exemplary,micro and macro dynamics detailed and dramatic,smallest of details are extracted to produce a coherent natural sound stage.
Cosmetically there is the tiniest of flaws on the lower right hand corner of the power supply which cannot be seen unless you are looking up at an angle and cannot be noticed at eye level nor picked up by the camera.Considering that imperfection and being the second owner I am rating this piece an 8.Ibelieve the pictures will attest to pristine condition.
