Completely disagree but not surprised at this post as people always love to champion the amazing and dramatic improvements from room treatments.  I’ve never found this to be the case.  .......

Hey Jaxwired...I'm not too sure everyone has seen your dedicated listening room and set-up but if you still have the same it's almost ideal and from your point of vue room treatment would probably indeed have little effect....but for someone who has yet to put in a concerted effort to optimally arrange their speakers in their room for the most even frequency response is missing out on their systems full capabilities and the benefits gained with a move from the SST2 to Cubed series would IMHO probably be lost

Hope you don't mind me taking liberties in posting one of your previous set-ups......

edit: oops...should have looked for one that had Brystons.

Wow, what a trip down memory lane.  Thank you for that!

All those pics were my previous home.  I moved about 4 years ago. I also slowed down on the box swapping.

.......

Thank you for the journey  :D...…My set-up is still relatively unchanged, the same Dynaudio Special 25s although I’ve managed to add a 127” retractable projection system in my very modest sized multi-purpose room and along the way downsized from the 4BSST to a 3BSST2….and the DSP base management incorporated in the Velodyne DD12 was a god send in correcting room anomalies.

Recently though I’ve been pondering if I even need a 5.1 set-up and hence my direct interest in this “Upgrade dilemma B3-SST2 & pre-power” thread although the Emotiva XSP-1 Gen2 (replaced my BP25P) is a rather capable pre-amp IMHO (one's gotta like those blues though) and I currently still have a need for 2.1 pass through with base management as the BP17 only offers stereo pass though if I'm not mistaken.

I guess my curiosity is mostly directed at the inclusion of this Dr. Salomie input stage which apparently brings something new to the table as the overall circuitry of the amps remain relatively unchanged from the SST2 and the BP26 has still the same circuitry design as all the previous pre-amps…even my original BP.5 from the 80s was touted as a “straight wire with gain” .
Unfortunately unless one can actually get one hands on these newer Brystons and use them in ones own set-up…. upgrading is almost a leap of faith.

A simple question, what would you choose?
A cubed preamp with SST2 poweramp, or non-cubed preamp with cubed power amp.

Just occurred to me and for speculation only regarding use of Cubed circuit:
The B135 cubed integrated amp has the Salomie circuit in the amp section, not the preamp section.
It could be that the cubed amps were ready for production before the BP17 cubed, or it has more impact while deployed in the amp section. Or, maybe the benefit is so small if used in both the preamp and amp, it is not noticeable. Only an audition will tell.....

I assumed it was on the inputs....???

Hi

The input section on the BP-17 Cubed is the new patented circuits that we use on the Cubed amplifiers as well.

Yes, on the inputs.
From the cubed series brochure:
"All Cubed Series
electronics feature a new patented input circuit
that is precisely  optimized and linear beyond
any we’ve used before."

From the BP17 Cubed web page:
"The BP17³ includes the patented Salomie circuit found in all Cubed Series amplifiers...."
