Our new Exotica 3's in dyed burled maple

When we build speakers for ourselves, we often use them at shows.  That being the case, we are always searching for unusual veneers and finishes.  Once and a while, someone who sees a pair of these "show" speakers just has to have them. That was the case with our recent Exotica 3 show pair done in an unusual batch of highly figured walnut shot with an orange dye.

Naturally, we had to replace them or go without a pair of Exotica 3's.

This time around, we did a special dye technique over a very nice batch of burled maple.  I think they turned out quite nice.

Here are some pictures...

These were also done in a hand-rubbed, high-gloss finish.

Here's a close-up...

Happy listening to us!

Jim, I always enjoy seeing your work on these really wild grain veneers!

I don't know what you think of it, but I thought I remembered a while back you did a fine job dying/tinting the phase plugs on a customer's E3s.  Might be worth the little detail if you think it would add a finishing touch for a show pair of speakers?

Regardless, a very nice looking set of speakers, and with what seems to be current fashion trends, I don't see them being around for very long.  I'd probably take the under if I were to bet on whether they even make it to a show before someone has to have them.  :thumb:
