Super 3XRS room placement
« on: 21 May 2016, 09:36 pm »
Greetings,

I've owned the Super 3XRS for a couple of years and love them. I'm often tweaking the speaker's placement. I've found myself experiencing better results with wide speaker placement and out into the room away from the front wall. I found this article by Joachim Gerhard:

http://www.magicgardenmastering.com/SpeakerSetUp.pdf

Which confirms what I was experiencing. So I decided to implement the suggestion in the article - I have the speakers all the way in the middle of an approximately 14 x 14 dedicated listening room and nearly against the side walls with the listening chair within 6 inches of the back wall. The results I've gotten are stunning. The perception of deep bass sounds like a 12-inch sub is in the room. The sound stage is super wide and its depth is jaw dropping. There is no loss of resolution and imaging.

I'd love to know if anyone else has tried this (room layout permitting) and if they have had similar results. Give it a shot if you can and you may feel like you just spent thousands on a new upgrade.

I'm driving the Super 3XRS primarily with a Decware SE84CKC.

Haven't tried it for years but thanks for the link.  I've been wanting to read that for a long time.  First heard about that setup in Stereophile.

Hi ompv62,

Many thanks for your post and great to hear about your findings. I would like to give it a try myself. I find myself setting up on the long wall more and more and find the bass response better this way too.

Thanks again,
Louis
