Good budget 5V Power Supplies?
« on: 18 Nov 2015, 01:57 am »
I need to get a couple of 5V supplies for a couple of DACs, raspberry pi2, and similar electronics. While something like the CIA VDC•5 MKI, the iFi USB power supply or the even more expensive Uptone JS-2 certaintly looks really nice, it's a bit more than I want to pay at the moment- especially since I need several for multiple systems.
So what are some good C&C alternatives?

I have had really good experience with adding a Astron to power chip amps such as the TPA3116. Since Astrons can easily be found used for cheap and offer huge performance for the price for TPA3116 chip amps, etc. I'm curious if there are similar good products for 5V / >2A that can be had used/(or new).

I have 2 Acopian linear regulated power supplies, they don't have pretty cases but they get the job done. Acopian power supplies are made for 24/7 industrial use and will probably out last any stereo.

I check the specifications on the Acopian web site then go shopping on eBay.

Thanks TrungT & WGH- That looks like a great option, but too bad the 5EB50 is only 0.5A. Maybe the 5EB250 with 2.5A will be better for 5V powered raspberrypi and odroid boards.

Is it correct that most USB DACs draw less than 0.5A?

Not looking for a wall-wart solution, but came accross this tear-down comparison tests of different USB power supplies if anyone is curious of the performance: http://www.lygte-info.dk/info/usbPowerSupplyTest%20UK.html
