Hello all, I'm a retired BBC sound engineer living in the south of France.
My sound gear was chosen after a lifetime of recording and listening to all types of music and speech. The house I live in is small with my listening room only 6m x 5m, so bass extension was always going to be difficult, particularly as I listen to a lot of (classical) organ music.
The combination of GIK acoustics bass absorbers and REW room acoustics tweaking software gives me a useful bass extension to below 20Hz with the major room resonances tamed by the equalisation in the sub feeds.
The subs and turntable are wall mounted on Apollo shelves, very important as the flooring and ceiling is suspended wood!
The Harbeths are fatigue free and I can listen all day, especially when it's raining, without any aural tiredness although the source material needs to be good.
I am luckier than most as I have a library of my own recordings I can use as a reference, and I know the microphones and the techniques used to make them.
As far as audio is concerned I don't take any notice of bullshit, only sound electro-acoustical engineering.
