What connectors are recommended for the amp side of the speaker cable?  I'd think the loss at that end would be at least as bad?

Preferably tube connectors on both amp end and speaker end for best sound, I would imagine.

I have had quite a few guys replace the binding posts on their amps with tube connectors. I have them on some of my amps as well.

It will fit into the ones I have tried it with but there is nothing to tension it to hold it in.

I added them to my amp and it was definitely tricky to get them to stay put.  I eventually glued some pvc tubing onto the inside part to lock them into place.
