Starting to think towards christmas and came across this. Any good or am I better off looking elsewhere??? I realy want a better CD player after I get a GK1 EL..

I've looked at the CD-pro mechanism too and it looks really good. It's built around the Philips VAU 1254 which is the bees knees. Builders rave about this unit, and although I've never used one, other people I know say they are awesome. I've built units around the older CDM12 which is sort of a predecessor and made of ABS not cast aluminium.

One thing I find odd looking at the datasheet for the module is that the standard analogue output seems to be inverted. Other folk could look at this and tell me I'm wrong. Maybe some of the kits have a buffer for this?

The other thing to think about when building a player is upgrading the key canned crystal oscillator to low-jitter clocks.

It might be worth asking oldmate at http://www.diyfidelity.com.au/ if he/she/it is thinking of bringing in that kit to Oz since he seems to be re-marketing plenty of other DIYzone stuff.

Mind you 800US seems rather reasonable.......

Be worth considering import duty etc too. and whether it can be shipped without the toroids (to save a bit of weight)

This is a great kit, I know because I've played with them, even if I don't own one yet (probably soon enough). I think the real uber perf will come when you take your favorite DAC and put it inside the case and use the I2S directly to the DAC. Couple of members have done this and I am itching to hear the results.

This is the way I'd like to treat it, but then I just ordered a DEQX so I don't need a DAC. Wonder if I could slave one of these easily....

Hi There,

We have sent a few of the CD-PRO2 kits to Aus, we ship from Taiwan for Aus orders so the shipping no so bad, around $60-$70USD. We put "Electronic Parts, No resale value" on the box, I think the last fellow said he paid about $90USD in duty.

As for leaving out the Tx to save shipping, does not really help. The whole box weigh 27 lbs, and the Tx is about 3 lbs. Most of the weight is on that fancy chassis.

Please let me know if you need more info.

Since we are making up a wish list, might as well budget a bit more for Xmas. By then, our new De-Jitter, Internal I2S DAC, and an External DAC (with tube V/I conversion and output buffer) will be ready.
