Tube help
« on: 3 Jul 2015, 08:34 pm »
Hello, I have a Sheng Ya (Vincent) cd player. It has two outputs to use. Either tube or SS. I have been using the tube output. It has a newer generic tube installed. Some forums suggested a different tube, like the Amperex Bugle Boy, would be a large improvement. So I bought one. I installed the new tube and no sound. I reinstalled the original tube and again, no sound. I swapped the interconnects over to the SS output and it worked fine. So did I do something wrong? Is it possible the new tube smoked something? Any ideas before I take it in for repairs?
Thanks, Herb.

Hi,

I doubt that the new tube did any damage or directly caused your problem.  My suspicion would be a bad solder joint somewhere.  Perhaps when you changed the tube, a marginal joint  at the tub socket cracked or broke.  If you use a switch to change outputs, I would also check it out for being bad or having a bad connection.  You probably will need to take it to someone. Mike Missel does very thorough work very reasonably.  He is at 314-704-3245.  Kent Johnson

Wise words in my humble opinion, I'll "second" that.
