The experts will chime in soon but this is not a new idea. I know Technics had one before and it made much more sense than this one.

I like it.  It would be great as a bedroom system or in a vacation home or something.  I don't think it will keep VPI up at night, but a well thought out product with half decent parts.  I hope they succeed.

Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of going for this drop.  The product looks really good.  It might make up for me selling my wife's 3 in 1 record player way back in 1985 :).

Impressed with the quality of the components and it looks like something that you can just listen to your records non critically.

Cheers Rod

What holds the record in place?  What about warped records?  How is anti-skating versus gravity affects addressed on the tonearm?  What would neutralize the feedback from built-in speakers?

Seems like a pointless exercise to me.  What's so wrong with the conventional orientation?  Why not just add a tilted mirror above it (that could be adjusted)?

Dumb!!!   :o

Since gravity is now exerting a shear force toward arm pivot instead of pressing stylus down into groove, how is VTF achieved?

And can you imagine the huge bias as arm starts moving across record and gravity exerts large force pulling it toward spindle?!

Apart from hipsters wanting something "cool" to look at, I see no sonic purpose or advantage whatsoever over the traditional design.  No need to re-invent a wheel that works fine already.  This is like making it from round to square!

Didn't B&O make one like this many years ago that mounted on a wall as part of a whole system? It was an ultra cool, modern all in one wall mounted stereo system. Or maybe it was just the electronics that were mounted flat on the wall.

Then there's this one too

What's this called, the Floating Clowndog Farse?   Is something floating here?

Maybe they floated a loan to hire these super techs who think they invented the vertical table.   I guess they did in a way.  This is the dumbest design ever.  Check out these linear trackers:

No. That system was designed for Braun by perhaps the most prolific modern day industrial designer, Dieter Rams. I wish I could see this exhibit:

http://www.fastcodesign.com/3047450/what-10-dieter-rams-products-reveal-about-the-principles-of-good-design

Note (in the pic) how Dieter also saw ZERO need or utility in placing the turntable vertically. Doing so would overly complicate the design and usefulness of it. Good designers are of the mindset that looks should NEVER be of more importance than utility......which is why A LOT of Dieter's work is still relevant and beautiful today.

I can see it as a design exercise. Many companies do them. What I do not see is any advantage.
Maybe the hipsters are trying to put a stamp on their generation..

Heck, my generation had lawn darts..

The ONLY reason to mount a turntable vertically would be to save floor space. But.....if you're in such need of floor space, you'd be much better off going the digital route with all your tunes anyway.

.....so, in essence, yeah......it's nothing more than an exercise in POOR design. But, if it helps keep vinyl alive in some perverse way, then I'm not 100% against it ; Just 99%

Mine had mullets ...

That's all I see this as, something to attract attention of hipsters who are clueless as to the downsides of this arrangement.  Maybe 1 out of 100 of them will at some point realize that layout is pointless and want better, then start down the rabbit hole of audiophilia.

A clamp holds the record in place.  VTF is applied with a spring and is constant, so performance with warped records should not be compromised.

Skating force will be increased by gravity pulling at a vector roughly 45° from the tracking arc.

You can prevent feedback from the speakers by plugging in external speakers?  Wonder if it has provisions to plug in your MP3 ?  Well, not really wondering.
