Yes indeed, that's terrific. And props to Cavett for actually asking smart questions about music.

The youtube 'Music in the Key of Oscar' is also good.

I was at the Diana Krall concert in Toronto recently and she credited Oscar Peterson for some of the arrangements she used.  My almost 4 year old son will have his first piano lesson today.  Maybe I should show him the video for incentive.

I was fortunate to see Mr Peterson maybe a decade ago at a jazz club in Seattle after his stroke...  Speaking of stroke, he sure could stroke those keys.  Brought tears to my eyes.  Couldn't believe I was hearing and seeing a living legend.
Similar story with Mr Dave Brubeck.. First at a Jewish temple in Houston Tx then, the Blue Note in The Village.  Need help getting on stage but once he was behind the keyboard,, man oh man!

I was involved in a number of recordings with Oscar and Telarc Records in the late 90's and early 2000's in Toronto's Manta Sound Studio and he was a true gentleman and also a bit of an audiophile.

I got credit on one of his albums as well - a real honour  :thumb:

Thanks for posting that!

Mr. Peterson was truly one of the great giants of jazz piano.

His "Swingin' Brass with the Oscar Peterson Trio" was one of the 3 formative albums of my life.  My  parents played that, along with Miles Davis's "Kind of Blue"  and the Dave Brubeck Quartet  "Live from Newport '58" from as early as I can remember.

Brubeck's group in the 90's was a guest artist with the Huntsville Symphony and Huntsville Community Chorus.  Those concerts were several years apart.    I was fortunate to be playing tuba in the Orchestra for both concerts.

The 1st concert lineup was:

Russell Gloyd - conductor
Dave Brubeck - piano
Bobby Militello - saxophone
Chris Brubeck - bass
Randy Brecker - drums

the second concert lineup was:

Russell Gloyd - conductor
Dave Brubeck - piano
Bill Smith - clarinet
Jack Six - bass
Randy Brecker - drums

Both concerts were magical musical evenings.   The musicians in both groups were super nice people to talk to before and after the dress rehearsal and after the concerts.

James,

There is an Oscar Peterson Arts Centre planned for Toronto.

It will have a 500 plus seat performance hall.

Look forward to celebrating his genius when it is complete.

One of my favorite cd's is the combo of Oscar Peterson Trio and Lester Young's 1952 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lester_Young_with_the_Oscar_Peterson_Trio

I have never had the pleasure of seeing him live, but have a number of cd's where he participated.
