Motorcycle Season, 2015
« on: 21 Mar 2015, 07:08 pm »
It's here!  First full day of Spring, first bike ride.
It snowed yesterday but melted today so I took the old Buell Useless out as it's pretty ratty and the roads are still covered with salt but it ran great.
One of my First Gear heated gloves died after only one year - and to think it came all the way from Pakistan, too.
By comparison, my Widder electric gloves lasted for 10 years but they went out of business during our last economic crunch which is a shame.
I went on a tear to get American or Italian riding gear so ended up with new Sidi boots, a trio of Vanson and Fox Creek jackets and a Suomy helmet.  It is just so difficult nowadays to find stuff that is still made in the USA or Italy - everybody has sold out.
I'll have to do something about heated gloves sooner or later but not today.
Hurry, Summer!

Just put new Pilot 4 tires on my Ulysses.  Just waiting for the melt to dry up.

Oddly enough, I saw another maniac on a Ulysses out hauling ass up an on ramp to merge onto a highway.
I'm always running one generation behind on the Pilots but I'll have the 4s sooner or later.

I need new tires for my 98 VFR800.  Any ideas?

I don't push too hard so I am looking for a middle of the road sport-tourer type.

Always liked Michelin car tires but never had them on a bike.

Thanks -Mike

You won't go wrong with Michelin Pilot Road.  Great mileage and handling, no issues in the rain.

I run Road Pilot 4s on my YZF600R and love the feel and confidence they give. I'm not a knee dragger but I'm sure they are well up to the task.

Good friends of mine were Pilot fans.  I always ran Metzelers on my GSXR's all those years ago.

The good folks at First Gear sent me a replacement set of gloves (no charge!) and I get the Triumph out today and froze my ass off some more.  I'm going to gear it up a tooth and add a center stand but other than that, I can't really think of anything that it needs other than lots of warm weather.
The Triumph is definitely a more civilized motorcycle than the Buells so it will make for a better long haul bike but I'm also glad I held onto the Buells as they're a much rowdier motorcycle which is a good thing.

Got this one out today - the perfect motorcycle for the criminally insane.
Kind of the antithesis of the Gentleman's Express...

Just put Pilot 4s on the VFR800 today, as well as clutch, brake, throttle and coolant fluid replacement. I did the oil/filter and air filter last week so we're pretty set for now.  Hard to believe shes 17 years old.
