Byrston Amps Class A operation
« on: 29 Apr 2015, 08:21 pm »
Hello folks,
I understand many SS designs, and as well Bryston Amps will run in full Class A operation up to a certain percentage-wattage of their rated output.  I think I read Mr James T. once stating something like 1% of rated power output.

Thus, with the (my) 7bSST Squared Amp, roughly 6 watts, correct?

I've noticed a characteristic of my new 7B Amps, that on occasion I have played them while cooking in the kitchen, and playing the system at "doctor's office levels", that the Amps actually seem to get warmer than when playing at much louder volume levels.   At wake the dead levels, my 7B's run as cool as cucumbers.

I'm taking an educated guess, but is this because at such low volume levels, the Amps then run in full Class A and thus generate greater heat due to Class A operation inefficiency?

I'll assume many other Amps probably do this, just never really paid much attention to such in the past.
