Cross Over with VR4 jrs
« on: 22 Apr 2015, 01:11 pm »
I understand crossovers and their purpose within the speaker caninet.

My question is that with a detached top module and bottom module, does the T/M crossover affect the woofer module?

I use a bi amp configuration with a tube amp on top and solid state on the bottom.

As I am trying to find the right tube for this application - I have cycled thru EL 34, KT88, and 6L6.  My next audition will be with the KT 77.

I notice with say the KT88 that the bass seems to be more present with this tube vs. the others.

So, am I just hearing something that is not there or is my question valid?

Thanks for your help -

Make sure your amp sensitivities are identical, otherwise you'll have a top-to-bottom discontinuity.

I went thru about a month of frustration and trial and error until I came up with a close as possible solution.

Since the tube amp is the more sensitive of the 2, I had an 8dB attenuator made.

It's close, just at loud volumes the bass seems to get away from me.

My jr's are getting the new upgrade so I will continue to experiment once they are returned.
