itunes on PC - converting my flac files/library
« on: 7 Apr 2015, 04:14 am »
I'm thinking of using Itunes on my PC. my whole music library is in flac.
I read on itunes that I can import and convert my entire folder of music via itunes.
I would need to convert all files to aiff, apple lossless aac or wav.

Is this a good idea (using itunes to connvert my library of flac files)and if I convert what file type should I convert too?
Thanks

If you convert your FLAC files to AIFF or Apple Lossless to use in iTunes, you will have to perform the conversion with third party software such as dBpoweramp, etc.  iTunes itself cannot perform the conversion.

I would personally spend $50 on JRiver Media Center, whose interface and management I like much better than iTunes and it also has better sound quality, unless you are wanting to use the native AirPlay feature of iTunes to stream to an Airport Express, Apple TV or other AirPlay enabled device.

What is it about iTunes that makes you want to use it on your PC? What are you using now?

I use JRiver on both my PC and mac machines and love it. In terms of freeware, you can give foobar a try http://www.foobar2000.org/

Thanks guys,
Not stuck on Itunes by any means.  Maybe JRiver with Jremote would be the better option and especially if sounds better.
I just bought a Devialet and want to use the AIR app to stream wireless to the Devialet.  I just want a good remote method of controlling the server.

I use "Music converter Pro". I keep my flac/originals in an extra (Toshiba/1 TB) hard drive. Then I just open my converter and drag them over, and it converts them and sends them to itunes, while leaving the originals in my extra drive.

Works great.
