Pics of my new Songbirds
« on: 12 Mar 2015, 11:34 pm »
Got them today and they are singing so sweetly right now!!! Thank you Jim and crew for a fantastic product and a great experience! While they aren't really positioned "properly", they are where they have to be and STILL sound wonderful!!

These pics don't come close to doing them justice. They are simply works of art.. But of course you already knew that... I'm really impressed wit the attention to detail. Look how close the grain patterns are on both speakers... I'm really, really happy with them and so is the wife!!

Cheers!

Steve

Beautiful. I noticed how close the grain patterns were on my SongBirds from the first time I saw them too. Jim and crew do fabulous work. What amp are you running them with?

I'm almost embarrassed to say.. It's a Yamaha avr.. The RX-v473.. I decided to start my journey to audio nirvana with speakers.. Hence the Songbirds... Next come cables, then a more powerful amp.. Running the hd tv through it so may stick with an avr.. Haven't made up my mind yet...

Recommendations are of course welcome!!

No reason for any embarrassment imo. I'm running my living room system with a v471, fronts- Song Surround Is, rears- Outlaw Bookshelfs, Song Center, old Velodyne Sub, and on the whole it sounds very good. Would they shine even more with a nice integrated or separates, undoubtedly, but there are always considerations/trade-offs. Often, if not usually, budgetary, but also focus. Which is more important to your desires, 2 channel or HT ? As conditions allow you can always adjust the system to suit your taste & budget.  8)

Hello, Steve.

Congratulations on your new speakers.

Absolutely no reason to feel embarrassed about your AVR. Your Yamaha is practically the same thing I started out with - a Denon AVR2113ci. I think it was 90W/channel. It was a decent starter unit that sufficed until I was ready to move into a better setup. My college-aged son has the Denon now, and he's perfectly happy with it.

As you learn more and experience more options, you may discover your 'needs' will increase as well. The most important thing is to enjoy the journey.

Absolutely no need for embarrassment. I have owned (and still own) tons of Yamaha gear over the years, it's good quality stuff. As for any amp recommendations, that would depend on whether you are running a 2 or 5.1 channel set up. Personally, I'm running a sort of 2 channel HT gig, with digital from an Apple TV, PVR and Salkstreamer going to an AVA DAC and AVA amp.

Sweet set of Songbirds!

I was not aware of this model of Salks.

I am using a Yamaha RX-797 at the moment with my Totem Model 1's.    I have had other amps, but this is no slouch.

Hi biker,
nice looking and I am sure sounding speakers.
I like the color.
I am also a biker here on planet Vietnam, but with (Only) a Honda
SCR 110cc with variable transmission, electronic injection.
Nothing to compete with what you have,
but many moons ago I had a Honda CB360
a more serious bike...

Guy, that brings back so many memories!! My very first scoot was a Honda step through 90.. A little later in life I had a fairly customized Honda CL350.  Lots of bikes over the last 45 years... Doesn't matter what you ride, if it has 2 wheels, it's all good!!

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Biker,
just a side note.
I started with a Honda Mini-trail 50cc, then a Yamaha 62cc trail, then a Yamaha 125cc road, then a Honda CB360, then in Vietnam a Honda Dream II 100cc (360,000Km) and now a Honda SCR 110cc.
So, from the age of 21 up to now 67 I always had at one time or the other two wheels between my legs.

I ride once on the CB350 and noted the engine is heavy, all solid iron.
The CB360 was a much more light bike with a nice aluminium engine block.
I own a CB450 1972 it had a defect that I could not identify, the engine failed after hot, the alternator was defective.
After a few months I sold the bike. Good times those.
