New toy: Rigol

I decided it's well past time to up the stakes a little in my "lab". My improvement today is modest but very much needed: Rigol DS1054Z.

It's been.... er, a while since I last used a 'scope. Things are a bit different now. It's actually pretty amazing what you get for the money. Yes it's "low end" but it should be incredibly useful. Doesn't seem to be junk - Dave Jones of eevblog gave it a pretty good review (from what I could tell, can't really sit through all of his videos).

That said, it's still in the box and I have real work to do first... but I'll update with my experience and real audio examples (hoping I get that far).

[And... the image is not 1054Z but 1104Z... must be functionally the same, just higher bandwidth. Yes I can say firmware hack :-P]

Sweet purchase!  Do you have a DIY project planned to break her in?

I guess what tipped me over the edge this week was thinking about connecting I2S lines between USB interfaces and DACs. But, there's a stack of things that have been on the list for a while, like PSU supply noise and rejection of same.
